Kyoto By Area: Higashiyama, Arashiyama, Fushimi And The North

Kyoto splits into four readable quarters. The eastern hills hold Higashiyama, Kiyomizu-dera and the Philosopher's Path. The western valley keeps Arashiyama and the Tenryu-ji garden, the south is Fushimi Inari country, and the north gathers Kinkaku-ji and Ryoan-ji. Kyoto Travel Guide Essentials: Haruka, The Buses And Getting Around

Kyoto has no airport of its own, so the first decision is how you arrive. The JR West HARUKA limited express brings foreign visitors in from Kansai on a one-way ticket of 2,200 yen, while the limousine bus from Itami takes about 50 to 55 minutes and costs 1,500. Once in the city, the network is a bus system with a subway underneath rather than the reverse. The flat bus fare is 230 yen, the subway runs 220 to 360 by zone, and the one-day pass that matters now is the Subway and Bus One-Day Pass at 1,100 yen, since the old bus-only pass was withdrawn in 2024.
